The original pattern of this fragment, which consists of innumerable parts, cannot be reconstructed. Its dominating feature is a cloudband assembled into an arch; in addition there are medallion segments and halved medallion pendants, and two different minor borders acting as a frame. Vocabulary of forms – vine scrolls, cloudbands, birds – and technical features – silk foundation – classify it in the group of carpets with scrolling vines and birds from Herat, also a date in the early 17th century. This carpet has the densest knot texture of all the carpets with scrolling vines and animals in Vienna.
